The drummer for the rock band Scorpions has been sentenced to a month in jail after he allegedly insulted Islam at Dubai airport, the state-owned National newspaper reported.

James Kottak, a 51-year-old father who has played with the Scorpions since 1996, was reportedly convicted of insulting Islam, raising his middle finger, mooning passengers and being under the influence of alcohol while transferring at the airport on April 3.

The Gulf News daily said the band was scheduled to perform at a Formula One race on April 5, but Mr. Kottak was a no-show.

The National reported that the punishment was handed down Tuesday.

Mr. Kottak reportedly admitted to drinking five glasses of wine on the flight from Moscow, but he denied other charges.
