TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Two Texarkana, Arkansas, liquor store owners are challenging a proposal to allow the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption in Texarkana, Texas.

The Texarkana Gazette reported Sunday (https://bit.ly/1pJJTmA ) that a lawsuit by Vincent’s Fine Wines and Liquors owner Vincent Senatore and Party Factory owner Alan Avard asks a judge in Bowie County, Texas, to forbid the Texarkana, Texas, City Council from placing the question on the November ballot.

A hearing is scheduled for Monday morning prior to the Texas-side City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting.

Supporters of the proposal say the Arkansas retailers are “trying to protect their pocketbooks.”

The lawsuit alleges the petition for the vote was improperly filed on a Saturday when City Hall was closed and that signatures on the petition were not properly validated.
