BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) - State police are trying to determine what caused a fatal crash on a central New Jersey highway.

Steven Walker, of Basking Ridge, was killed Saturday night when his car veered off the express lanes of Route 287 northbound in Bridgewater and struck a tree. The 61-year-old Walker was alone in his car, and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Investigators say Walker’s car left the roadway around 10:20 p.m., crossing a grass median and the local lanes before hitting the tree.

He was unresponsive when troopers arrived on scene and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
