ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings has been appointed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency National Advisory Council.

Demings appointment was announced this week by FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate. He is one of 12 new members, and is filling a vacancy in the Elected Local Government Officials position.

The committee ensures effective and ongoing coordination of federal emergency management activities. The group also provides recommendations to the FEMA Administrator.

There are two other Florida-based NAC members: Fort Lauderdale City Manager Lee Feldman and Christopher Littlewood, who serves as the Project Coordinator for the Center for Public Safety Innovation at St. Petersburg College.
