GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - The University of North Dakota is swearing in its newest officer - a police dog.

Officer Ben is a 2-year-old yellow Labrador retriever trained to sniff out drugs and track people. He’s among the officers scheduled to be sworn in Monday at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus.

Ben is handled by officer Jose Solis, who previously worked patrols on campus. The UND Association of Residence Halls provided funding to start the K-9 unit.

Ben has already been at work. UND says the dog discovered meth-making materials in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Friday.
