CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - Two fundraisers are in the works for the family of a Gary police officer found fatally shot last month in his patrol car.

Forty-seven-year-old Patrolman Jeffrey Westerfield was found slain July 6 in his patrol car near a Gary intersection. A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder in the killing of the officer, who was a father of four daughters and had served on the police force for 19 years.

The Times of Munster reports (https://bit.ly/XW0quH ) the Untouchables Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club will host an Aug. 23 fundraiser for Westfield’s family with food, beverages and live music.

The next day, the Calumet City Fire Department will host a 120-mile ride also benefiting the officer’s family.

Donations for the Westerfield family can also be made at any BMO Harris bank.
