LEOMINSTER, Mass. (AP) - Police say what started as a high-speed pursuit in Lancaster ended with a four-vehicle crash in Leominster that injured nine people.

Lancaster police started chasing a suspect who allegedly stole a purse from Kimball Farm on Sunday afternoon.

The chase reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour on Route 117 before officers broke off pursuit out of public safety concerns.

Minutes later, Leominster police reported a four-vehicle crash at about 4:30 p.m. that involved the suspect’s car.

Nine people required hospitalization, including one person who received serious and possibly life-threatening injuries. Two others were seriously hurt and six suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No names were released and there was no word on any charges.
