LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area are investigating the death of a 79-year-old swimmer from California whose body was recovered from Lake Mohave during the weekend.

National Park Service spokeswoman Christie Vanover said Monday that park rangers, Nevada Department of Wildlife wardens and fire department divers from Bullhead City, Arizona, recovered the man’s body Sunday.

Vanover says he was from Riverside, California. The Clark County coroner in Las Vegas didn’t immediately release his name.

Vanover says rangers were notified about 2:30 p.m. that the man disappeared under water after appearing to struggle.

Witnesses tell investigators he wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

Lake Mohave is the Colorado River reservoir behind Davis Dam and the border between the cities of Laughlin, Nevada, and Bullhead City, Arizona.
