VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - A fire official says an abandoned military barracks that was known as a hangout for homeless people burned down Sunday.

Vallejo Fire Department Capt. Steve Smircich tells KPIX-TV (https://cbsloc.al/1uF1vSe ) that firefighters were called about 7 p.m. to the blaze at the barracks on Mare Island.

Smircich says the barracks are known to house “homeless activity.”

Fire Capt. Arthur Gonzales says the barracks have been vacant for about 15 years. Gonzales says the blaze was under control as of 9 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
