PONCHATOULA, La. (AP) - Ponchatoula police are investigating the death of former LSU and University of New Orleans basketball player Matt Derenbecker.

Police Chief Bry (BREE) Layrisson (LARE’-rhi-son) tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1r4TKqW ) says Derenbecker was found dead Sunday morning in a pool at a friend’s house.

Layrisson says there appeared to be no foul play. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death

Derenbecker signed with LSU in 2010 and transferred in August 2011 for “personal matters.”

Derenbecker ended up at Dayton for the 2012-13 season.

He transferred to UNO and received a waiver to play right away. He averaged 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 11 games before leaving the team in January for unspecified medical reasons.
