HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The federal Department of Interior has awarded $250,000 to the city of Hammond for improvements at Zemurray Park.

City grants administrator Lacy Landrum tells The Daily Star (https://bit.ly/1oujzsE) the grant plus a $250,000 match from the city will allow for construction of a splash park, toddler playground, an aeration system, a fishing station and picnic tables.

The first phase of planned improvements at the park - the addition of a pond - was completed earlier this year. Refurbishing of the park’s pool is still in the planning stage.

In all, the city will spend $1.5 million in grants and local funding to improve Zemurray Park.
