FREEPORT, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Long Island man is charged with vehicular manslaughter after one of his passengers was struck by a boat propeller.

Raymond Balboa of Baldwin was awaiting a court appearance Monday. Nassau County police say he also is charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated.

They say the passenger, Cesar Hernandez-Rodas of Bayshore, was struck by the propeller Sunday while swimming in Baldwin Bay. About 10 to 14 people were on the boat at the time.

The name of Balboa’s attorney was not immediately known.
