LINDEN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are seeking a man who is suspected of decapitating chickens in a New Jersey cemetery.

Linden police issued an arrest warrant for 41-year-old Leonard Edwards Jr. of Wharton. He faces animal cruelty and unlawful possession of a weapon charges.

Capt. James Sarnicki tells the Homes News Tribune (https://mycj.co/Vf6o7W ) Edwards was seen using machetes to decapitate and kill several chickens in Rosehill Cemetery on July 31. Sarnicki says Edwards placed the dead birds by some gravesites and smeared blood on headstones.

Police believe it was some type of religious or cultural ritual.
