ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - More than 200 members of a New York Army National Guard aviation unit are back in the United States after a deployment to the Persian Gulf.

National Guard officials say the soldiers in the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade have arrived at Fort Hood in Texas. Their group is the first half of the New Yorkers who have returned after completion of the unit’s mission in Kuwait.

The brigade left New York for Fort Hood in September, then headed to Kuwait in December to provide aviation support for U.S. military forces.

Soldiers in the brigade are based in suburban Albany, Rochester, Olean, Dunkirk and Long Island. They’re expected to be back in New York state over the next 10 to 14 days. The other New York troops are expected to return to the U.S. this month.
