PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - State and municipal offices are closed throughout Rhode Island as the state marks Victory Day.

Rhode Island is the last state to recognize the holiday, which marks the Japanese surrender in World War II in 1945, which put an end to the war.

Public buses are operating on a holiday schedule, and trash pickups are delayed a day.

Most retail stories are open, as are federal offices. The postal service is delivering mail.
