AUSTELL, Ga. (AP) - The firms selected to oversee construction of a new stadium for the Atlanta Braves in Cobb County has begun reaching out to local companies about the project.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the four companies overseeing the $672 million project held an outreach seminar Monday for business owners (https://bit.ly/1Aa5RnF ). Presenters reviewed the timeline for bidding on parts of the project and encouraged local firms to submit bids.

Presenters said at the project’s peak they expect more than 1,000 workers to be needed from hundreds of vendors, suppliers and subcontractors.

Cobb County Commissioner Lisa Cupid told attendees that it’s important to have local businesses participate in the project.

Initial work already is underway at the site. The Braves are expecting to begin playing in the new stadium in 2017.
