CLINTON, Conn. (AP) - Clinton’s Planning and Zoning Commission has rejected plans for a large propane storage and distribution facility in town.

The board voted 7-1 on Monday night against the facility proposed by energy company Global Partners LC of Waltham, Massachusetts, after residents and commission members expressed safety concerns.

It’s not clear if Global Partners intends to appeal the decision to state court. A company spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a message Tuesday. Global Partners had said its plans met local zoning codes and the facility would be safe.

Global proposed storing about 540,000 gallons of propane on a portion of the 37-acre site near the Madison line and the Hammonasset River. Many local residents and some town officials worried about an explosion at the facility.
