MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The state of Vermont is seeking public comment on its new draft telecommunications plan, including a target set for faster broadband speeds.
Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/1nLgepe) the draft plan says Vermont now has 99 percent broadband coverage, with plans to provide service to the remaining 1 percent.
It envisions that every address in Vermont should have broadband Internet access, with high speeds achieved as of 2024. That service also should be affordable to all.
The plan also deals with goals to improve mobile coverage, Emergency 911 services, and the state government’s use of telecommunications.
Hearings have been scheduled starting Aug. 25 in Burlington, Brattleboro, Barre and Rutland.
