SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Internationally known baritone Nathan Gunn is returning to his native South Bend to be an artist-in-residence at the University of Notre Dame.

The university says Gunn, who has performed at major opera houses across the United States and Europe, will spend one week each semester for the next four years teaching Notre Dame vocal students, visiting classes, and coaching students as they prepare for performances.

Gunn won the inaugural Beverly Sills Artist Award for young singers in 2006.

To mark the first week of his residency, Gunn will perform a concert for the public on Sept. 10 at the university’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.
