CHICAGO (AP) - A downtown Chicago bridge is temporarily closing while work continues on the Riverwalk project.

The Chicago Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that the bridge over the Chicago River at State Street will close Wednesday morning. It’s scheduled to remain closed through the afternoon of Aug. 23.

When complete, the Chicago Riverwalk will provide a continuous pedestrian path along the main branch of the river, from State Street to Lake Street.

Northbound State Street traffic will detour to LaSalle Street via Wacker Drive then back east to State on Illinois Street. Southbound traffic will detour to Clark Street via Grand Avenue and back to State on Wacker Drive.

Bicyclists will be rerouted to the two-way bike lanes on Dearborn Street.
