BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Fargo man accused of violating probation in an animal mistreatment case has posted $700 bond.

Sixty-four-year-old William Kiefer appeared in court in Burleigh County on Tuesday, a day after appearing in Morton County. He’s accused of violating probation in both counties but The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1r8K8vm ) his $700 bond covers both counties.

Kiefer could face up to a year in jail if he’s found to have violated terms of probation by buying a horse and also failing to follow through with court-ordered mental health services.

Kiefer pleaded guilty last year to misdemeanor animal cruelty and four counts of overworking, mistreating or abandoning animals. He was sentenced to six months in custody and two years of probation in the case that involved the deaths of more than 100 horses.
