LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana man convicted of strangling and raping a Lafayette woman while her three children were home has been sentenced to 145 years in prison.

Twenty-eight-year-old James Miske Jr. of Lafayette was convicted last month of two misdemeanors and seven felonies, including rape and criminal deviate conduct in the January attack.

The Journal & Courier reports (https://on.jconline.com/1uNUBu0 ) the victim told a Tippecanoe Court during Tuesday’s sentencing hearing that Miske should remain locked up permanently and she wouldn’t feel safe if he were released.

The woman’s 4-year-old son told investigators he was asleep on a couch when Miske entered the home and began to beat his mother, at one point smashing her head against the wall and threatening to kill her before dragging her into a bedroom.
