JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to a 2011 shooting that killed a 2-year-old boy and paralyzed the boy’s father.

Christopher Bradley pleaded guilty Tuesday in Hinds County Circuit Court to depraved heart murder and aggravated assault, avoiding a trial that was set to begin. Bradley’s sentence included 60 years in prison, with 20 years suspended.

Robert McGee and his 2-year-old son Romerion Rhodes had just arrived at their Jackson home on a Sunday afternoon when Bradley pulled up and sprayed the car with gunfire. Rhodes died from a gunshot in the head. McGee was permanently injured after being shot in the head and lower back.

Police said Bradley followed McGee home intending to shoot him. Rhodes was in the back seat of the car.
