WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - Authorities say a 19-year-old man shot in a Vermont dispute about a possible heroin theft did not show up in court on a charge of possessing the drug and cocaine.

Joseph Atkinson was shot in the torso June 11 in Springfield, Vermont, allegedly over stolen drugs.

State police issued Atkinson a citation to appear in court Tuesday, but he wasn’t there. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.

The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/1uO8Mzd) a judge approved Deputy Windsor County State’s Attorney David Cahill’s request to issue a warrant for Atkinson’s arrest and set bail at $10,000.

Cahill said in a phone call in late June, Atkinson’s mother indicated that her son is still recovering from the gunshot wound in New Jersey and didn’t understand why he needed to appear.
