CARMEL, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in Putnam County are trying to confirm the identity of a man whose body was found in a wooded area in Carmel.

Sheriff Donald P. Smith says the body was found a few hundred yards north of U.S. Route 6 on Tuesday.

Smith says the man appeared to have been dead for several days.

Investigators say there were no signs of foul play.

The county coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
