HONOLULU (AP) - A 51-year-old man with a history of stealing cars has been identified as the person shot and killed last week by Honolulu police.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office says James Pickard Jr. died from gunshots to the head and torso.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/VlN0WP) reports Pickard’s criminal record showed 22 convictions, including 10 felonies. Eight were for car theft, according to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center.

Police say Pickard and a passenger on Aug. 6 were parked in front of a home that neighbors called a “drug house.”

The car was stolen and three officers approached on foot.

Police say Pickard drove toward an officer in front of him, struck the officer’s car, reversed direction and drove toward two other officers behind him.

Two officers fired multiple shots.
