COLBERT, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma highway patrol authorities say the body of a Colbert teen who drowned in a lake has been recovered.

Officials aren’t releasing the name of the 15-year-old boy who drowned Tuesday afternoon in Lake Texoma.

Authorities say the boy and his cousin were swimming in the lake and decided to race to a sand bank about 70 feet away from the shore.

Officials say the pair swam about 45 feet before stopping to rest. The victim began yelling for help. His cousin tried helping the boy, but they both went under water.

Troopers say the cousin was able to reach the water’s surface. The cousin saw the victim floating face down, before the body sank.

Dive crews later found the teen’s body on Tuesday in about 20 feet of water.
