PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - Rodeo royalty from before World War II met the new generation this week in Pendleton.

The East Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/A8HRYh ) 1940 Heppner Rodeo princess Patty Boyd greeted the 2014 Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon courts at an honorary barbecue.

Boyd was raised on a family ranch outside of Heppner. She graduated from Heppner High at the age of 17, and served as a Heppner Rodeo princess that summer.

The 91-year-old Boyd remembers her time on the court as a blur of rodeos, dances, parades and gatherings, many with the Pendleton Round-Up court who share a sister relationship with the Heppner court.

Members of the new court told the newspaper it was exciting to meet rodeo royalty from so far back.
