FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A 9-year-old boy has been killed in a Fort Worth house fire despite the efforts of neighbors who rushed to help him.

Fire spokesman Tim Hardeman says firefighters pulled the child from the home in south Fort Worth early Thursday afternoon. The boy was flown to a hospital where he died.

Three other boys - one 14 years old, another 5 and the other 2 years old - were in the home when the fire began but were able to escape.

Hardeman says a neighbor was hospitalized after she was overcome by smoke while attempting to enter the home and rescue the 9-year-old.

Authorities could not confirm whether the boys are related and Hardeman says it’s not clear whether there were adults in the house at the time.
