LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Board of Education has voted to partner with two foundations to strengthen education at struggling schools in the state.

The board says it will work with the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation to develop a comprehensive plan for Arkansas’ academically distressed schools and districts.

A report on the state of public education will be released later this fall as part of the initiative. The plan also calls for educators, parents and policymakers to meet to discuss issues.

The comprehensive plan is scheduled to be complete by next summer.
