GREER, S.C. (AP) - Voters in Greer will decide in November whether to allow stores to sell beer and wine on Sundays.

Multiple media outlets reported that voters had approved of Sunday sales in restaurants four years ago.

The city council voted 5-1 on Tuesday to allow voters to consider whether to allow beer and wine sales in grocery and convenience stores on Sundays.

Store owners would have to obtain permits from the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

City Councilman Wryley Bettis said the change could eliminate the need for city residents to go to Greenville on Sunday to buy alcohol.
