PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say two young boys were in a car that crashed during a chase that began when an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding.

According to the DPS, the vehicle was going 98 mph when it passed the officer early Thursday morning and over 100 mph during the pursuit.

The DPS says two men ran from the vehicle after it crashed at a Phoenix intersection near the State Route 51 freeway but were arrested in the vicinity.

The boys - a 4-month-old and his 2-year-old brother - were turned over to state child-welfare officials. The younger boy had facial bruises.

The DPS say the boy’s mother also was in the car. She and the two men were arrested on suspicion of various crimes.
