HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - An official says stormwater runoff following heavy rains in the Detroit area likely is a factor in high E. coli bacteria levels at some Lake St. Clair beaches.

The Detroit News reports (https://bit.ly/1mM7KOT ) beaches at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Macomb County’s Harrison Township were closed following Monday’s rains due to high E. coli levels along with beaches in New Baltimore and St. Clair Shores.

Gary White, Macomb County Health Department deputy health officer, says the bacterial levels likely are “related to the level of rainfall we had.”
