TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Pima County authorities say a man is dead after apparently stepping in front of a tractor-trailer hauling gravel west of Interstate 10.

County sheriff’s officials identified the man as 23-year-old Shane Edward Rivera.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he was from Tucson.

Authorities say Rivera was walking along West Avra Valley Road when he suddenly stepped into the roadway and was hit by the semi-truck about 5 a.m. Thursday.

The truck driver stayed at the scene and several passers-by tried to render aid to Rivera, who later was declared dead at the scene.
