LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) - Pendleton Grain Growers Inc. says it plans to close AG Supply retail stores in Pendleton, Athena and Milton-Freewater by early September, and sell its locations in Hermiston, Island City and Joseph.

Newspapers in La Grande and Pendleton report (https://is.gd/Y7v50x ) that the cooperative is looking to exit retail service to focus on core divisions such as grain and seed.

The cooperative did not receive offers on the store that are set to close.

Tim Hawkins is chairman of the PGG board of directors. He says the board is optimistic about the restructuring, but understands the impact the closures will have in the three Umatilla County cities.

The member-owned agricultural cooperative was formed more than 80 years ago.
