SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Portland, Corvallis and Eugene have banned plastic shopping bags, and a ban in Ashland goes into effect in October.

But a proposal for a statewide bag ban failed in the Legislature last year and a campaign to extend the ban to Salem and other cities has stalled.

A conservation advocate for Environment Oregon, Rikki Seguin, told the Statesman Journal (https://stjr.nl/1oM5rLq) there’s not enough support on the Salem council.

Council member Laura Tesler says the campaign fizzled out and there’s not enough community support.
