PLYMOUTH, Conn. (AP) - School officials in Plymouth have approved an investigation of Superintendent of Schools Eleanor Cruz, following her arrest on a larceny charge connected to her previous job in Hebron.

The Board of Education voted Wednesday night to have board Chairman Raymond Engle lead an investigation of Cruz’s conduct and determine whether disciplinary action is warranted. Cruz has been told not to report to work, but is not on any type of leave.

State police charged Cruz last week with felony first-degree larceny. Hebron officials accused her of stealing or misappropriating up to about $14,000 in school money when she was superintendent there in 2012.

Cruz didn’t immediately return an email message Thursday. Her lawyer has said most of the allegations are unsubstantiated and much of the spending was permitted.
