RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities on Long Island are expected to resume searching for a kayaker reported missing in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Suffolk County police say witnesses called 911 after they saw a distressed kayaker in the lake off Lake Shore Drive at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. They say the man was calling for help, but the good Samaritans lost sight of the man.

Authorities, including marine and aviation units, searched for the man for several hours before suspending their efforts due to darkness.

The search is to resume Friday morning.
