SLATINGTON, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a toddler died after being struck by a vehicle after running into the road in front of her eastern Pennsylvania home.

Police in Lehigh County said 21-month-old Farrah Munoz was struck outside the Washington Township residence at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Coroner Scott Grim said the girl was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she was pronounced dead just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. He ruled the death accidental.

State police said the child was playing in the yard and ran out into the road. Police told The (Easton) Express-Times that her mother chased her, but the girl was hit and the mother was nearly struck herself.

Police said the accident remains under investigation, and an accident reconstruction team is scheduled to return to the scene.
