FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Middle Tennessee say a tanker truck explosion and fire have killed one person and shut down Interstate 65.

Police told media that the fuel tanker hit an overpass at about 3:40 a.m. Friday at mile marker 61. It was carrying unleaded gasoline.

Franklin Police spokesman Charles Warner said the interstate and the overpass in the area would be closed for “the foreseeable future.”

Witnesses said they heard a large boom, and then saw a fireball light up the sky. Firefighters say they have gotten the blaze under control.

It wasn’t clear what initially caused the crash. Authorities are investigating.

Detours are in place for travelers.
