MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a 13-year-old boy was found fatally shot at a home in Midwest City.

Police Chief Brandon Clabes says officers responded to the home Thursday afternoon after receiving “vague 911 calls.” Once there, officers discovered the boy dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Clabes says a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old who were present at the time of the shooting initially told investigators that the victim shot himself. But Clabes says the teens later admitted in separate interviews that the weapon had accidentally discharged while the 14-year-old was handling it, striking the younger teen.

Clabes says information from the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office to determine whether any charges should be filed.
