MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) - The Brevard County Clerk of Courts is warning residents of a scam involving emails regarding missed court dates or jury duty.

Clerk of Courts Scott Ellis says a resident recently received an email signed by a nonexistent “Clerk to the Court Ava Tailor” that asked the recipient to click on an attached link.

Florida Today (https://on.flatoday.com/1ozU92U ) reports the email’s “zip” file could unleash a computer virus or acquire personal information from the recipient’s computer.

The clerk’s office does not send emails related to missed court appearances or jury duty. Ellis advises people to contact his office if they’re uncertain about an email, letter or phone call relating to court business.
