DETROIT (AP) - The giant slide is once again operating at Detroit’s Belle Isle Park.

Staffed by Michigan Department of Natural Resources park rangers, the six-lane slide is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 30.

The cost is $1 per slide or $5 for six slides.

A special community event hosted by the DNR and the Michigan State Police is planned for Friday. Park visitors can use the slide from noon to 3 p.m. and talk to state police troopers and DNR conservation officers about their work on Belle Isle and across the state. Regular slide rates still apply.

The renovated slide opened back up for business on Aug. 2.

During the first two weekends, 1,400 visitors went down the slide, which originally was introduced in 1967.
