KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) - A security guard who was seriously wounded during a gunman’s rampage at a FedEx facility in Kennesaw is thanking the medical team who treated him.

Christopher Sparkman was shot in the chest by a shotgun on April 29 and faces another surgery at the end of the year.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (https://on-ajc.com/1qdtAw2 ) Sparkman and his wife returned to WellStar Kennestone Hospital on Friday for an awards event for hospital staff.

Sparkman told reporters “every day is a battle,” adding he’s grateful for all the prayers and support he’s received.

Once he fully recovers, Sparkman says he plans to pursue his goal of becoming an air traffic controller.

Nineteen-year-old Geddy Kramer wounded six people, including Sparkman, before killing himself.
