DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Board of Medicine has fined a Davenport-based physician for operating on the wrong ankle of a patient.

The board says Dr. Tuvi Mendel mistakenly performed arthroscopic surgery on the patient’s left ankle on Nov. 5 last year. Mendel noticed the error after he finished and immediately told the patient and her family. The patient agreed to have surgery on her right ankle. Mendel reported the incident to the medical board.

The Quad-City Times says (https://bit.ly/1oA5DU4 ) the board issued a warning and fined Mendel $2,500. The board imposed the same penalty earlier this week on Dr. Rene Recinos, of Mason City. Recinos had operated on the wrong finger of a patient.
