BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A judge has dismissed a rape charge that had been filed against a 24-year-old man accused of assaulting a Billings motel maid.

The Billings Gazette reported Friday (https://tinyurl.com/m2rahsx) Darren Jon Longhair of Fort Kipp had been charged with sexual intercourse without consent. The charged was dropped Thursday at prosecutors’ request.

Longhair denied the allegation and said he was relieved the charge was dropped.

A motion filed by prosecutors said only that pursuing the charge was not in the interest of justice. The newspaper said prosecutors could not be reached for comment.

Longhair is a member of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation Housing Authority commission.

He was arrested July 31.
