MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state offices are closed in honor of Bennington Battle Day.

The Battle of Bennington was fought just over the border in New York when soldiers fighting for the British marched toward Bennington in an attempt to seize weapons stored there.

State offices will be closed on Friday. On Saturday admission to the eight historic sites owned by the state of Vermont will be free.

The celebration at the Bennington Battle Monument in Bennington will include a living history encampment, Revolutionary War cannons and other activities.

There will also be special events on Saturday at Mount Independence in Orwell and the Hubbardton Battlefield - the only Vermont location where a Revolutionary War battle was fought.
