SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Two teenage girls are hospitalized with serious injuries after their all-terrain vehicle was hit by a car while crossing a rural state highway in Utah Friday.

The pair, both 15, were crossing Utah Route 73 to meet friends for a ride when they were hit by a PT Cruiser going at about 30 mph.

Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Joe Dougherty said the girls didn’t look before crossing near Eagle Mountain. He said the driver was attempting to stop at the time of the collision.

The ATV driver was flown to University of Utah Hospital by medical helicopter and the passenger was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center.

Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, Dougherty said.
