SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials say a 35-year-old woman died shortly after being arrested on suspicion of public intoxication in Sacramento County.

A sheriff’s news release says the woman became unresponsive while riding in a jail transport van Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle was immediately pulled over and a deputy began life-saving efforts. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1rA8WYU) a concerned citizen called police after seeing the woman behaving erratically on a Rio Linda street.

The newspaper says the woman was medically cleared by the fire department before being taken into custody.

Her name has not been released pending notification of family. The coroner’s office will determine the cause of death.
