FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - The Army’s largest training base is organizing its fourth annual 5K run and walk to honor service members who have fallen in the line of duty.

Army spokesman Pat Jones says Fort Jackson’s event is set for Saturday at Hilton Field on the installation outside Columbia.

The event is part of a national effort to help bring awareness to those who were killed or wounded and their families.

Runners carry the names of fallen soldiers who were from South Carolina. Bibs are available for those who would like to honor soldiers from outside the state.

The event is free and open to the public.
